In an effort to serve the local Las Vegas community, Hidden Talent Foundation supported several North Las Vegas students in an after school education incentive program.

Clark County, Nevada students had very different needs than students in Togo or other parts of the world. In Clark County, tuition was free and transportation was provided. There were programs already in place which provided free and reduced breakfasts, lunches and in some cases, evening and weekend meals as well. Necessary school supplies, and even new school clothes and backpacks could also be provided. Yet, many students remained “at-risk” and failed to succeed in and complete school.

The reasons for the devastating drop-out rates in at risk communities were multidimensional and complex, so creative solutions were necessary.  However, it was clear that academic motivation was a key aspect to academic success. Hidden Talent provided deserving at risk students with that motivation.

Hidden-Talent learned of an after school athletic and self-defense training program designed to promote respect for self and others, health, fitness, emotional and physical well-being, self-confidence, and a sense of community and neighborhood camaraderie. Students learned to see themselves as future champions in life, with the ability to succeed in all they do. Academic AND social excellence was expected and encouraged.

Several students who participated in the program completely changed their attitude toward their studies, their parents, their elders and their potential in life. There were several students who wanted to attend the program, in order to have a productive way to spend their after school hours, but they did not have the resources.

Students who were sponsored by Hidden Talent were required to show increasing academic and social excellence. This was verified by a statement from the students’ teacher and parents.

Hidden Talent Foundation and REAL KO teamed up together to provide students with an education incentive and encouragement toward overall academic, social and physical excellence.  Both Hidden Talent Foundation and REAL KO saw all students as potential champions in life, and together we provided sponsored students with the opportunity to share that vision.
